Over 40 diners sat down to a three course meal on Friday 25th January to celebrate the poet’s anniversary. Highlight of the evening was the piping in of the haggis by Jim Turkington in full highland regalia. Several of the company also sported tartans and those who did not made up for it by attacking the haggis, neaps and tatties with gusto.

The Scottish Quiz was won by “Team Puddin'” after a tie-breaker and Sebastian Chambers read a Burns’ poem.

The evening would not have been so successful without the untiring efforts of the organiser Rob Chambers, all the “waitresses” Belinda, Jessica, and Brenda and Gordon the chefs.

In Kent 3, Saturday’s results leave Shoots in 4th place, one point behind New Ash Green. We need maximum support for the boys at Orpington on 16th February – if we beat them by a margin of 39 points (and NAG lose) we will take second place.

The second half of the 2006-07 rugby season proved disappointing as the 1st XV won only two further matches making 6 in all. Due the reorganisation of the Kent League this saw us relegated to League 3. The A team won 5, the Ex A did rather better winning 11 and the B team won the Late Red league with 14 wins! Glen Miller agreed to continue as Captain for 2007-08 and after a slow start the XV revitalised and hauled itself up to second place by Christmas. Retirements and other causes meant that generally only three sides have been fielded so far with the B team being moderately successful. We urgently need more players and colts.

On the club front, Greenwich Admirals made big efforts to recruit members and obtained grants through their sponsors to refurbish the changing rooms which were opened by the Deputy Mayor of Greenwich in May. We held a number of fundraising social events but a crisis arose in May when our landlords demanded that rent payments be brought up to date. This crisis was met by members agreeing to pay an immediate levy and to increase subscriptions.

The four cricket XIs (two on Saturday and two on Sunday plus colts) played attractive cricket so that the 1st XI under Glynn Fortt finished in 6th place and the twos finished a creditable 2nd in their league. Greenwich Admirals had an enjoyable summer season with several of their colts receiving national recognition.

As Chairman Roy Meyer said at the AGM we are not yet out of the woods. We must expand and generate the funds to keep the finances in the black.

The Wine and Cheese Party went with more than the usual bang as Derek Barnes celebrated his 60th Birthday.

The Peter Hills' award went deservedly to Neil Sharp for all the hard work he puts into rugby and club work.
